The Epics didn’t meet through an audition, a classified ad, or an algorithm. They grew up together. Devon Rutherford, Dave Shelton, Mark Wisniewski, and Brandon Husken have known each other since elementary school and have been making music together since 1985. Devon and his cousin Chris Zaharias are practically brothers, with some of Devon’s earliest musical memories built around the two of them singing Beatles harmonies together. Chris’s son, Cristien Quarterman, joined them onstage for the first time at just 13 years old—and never really left.
In one configuration or another, the musicians behind The Epics have spent nearly four decades performing together in cover bands, original projects, solo acts, tribute shows, show bands, and everything in between. That history can be heard from the first chorus. These aren’t hired players staring at charts and hoping to find chemistry. They already know where the other guy is going, when to leave space, when to add a harmony, and when it’s time to throw another log on the fire. The result is a classic-rock experience that feels less like a collection of songs and more like a night out with a band you’ve known forever.
The Epics combine multiple lead singers, rich live harmonies, seasoned players, and a songbook that reaches far beyond the standard bar-band checklist. The typical show moves through the many neighborhoods of rock and roll—British Invasion, roots rock, power pop, arena rock, new wave, alternative, and more—without sounding like somebody hit “shuffle” on a tired playlist.
You’ll hear songs everybody loves, songs people forgot they loved, and songs that make the crowd turn toward the stage and say, “I can’t believe somebody is actually playing this!”
That’s the promise behind the band’s motto: Songs you’re not gonna hear everywhere!
Every Epics performance is played live, by real musicians, without backing tracks doing the heavy lifting. Lead vocals rotate throughout the show, giving the audience different personalities, different textures, and fresh energy all night long. Layered vocal harmonies, musical interplay, unexpected selections, and decades of shared instincts give the band a sound that is polished without becoming sterile—and loose enough to feel alive without ever becoming sloppy.
Most importantly, The Epics understand what the night is supposed to accomplish. They aren’t there to conduct a recital. They’re there to help create the kind of atmosphere that keeps people in the room: singing, dancing, laughing, ordering another round, and wondering how three hours disappeared so quickly. The musicianship is serious, but the experience is about connection, nostalgia, spontaneity, and fun.
The band has also taken a modern, modular approach to reliability. Rather than depending on one fragile lineup, The Epics draw every performance from a deep roster of trusted musicians with decades of shared history and professional experience. Every engagement features three or more Epics, with multiple drummers, guitarists, and vocalists available to keep the calendar moving and the music playing.
For a venue or promoter, that means something rare: flexibility without sacrificing identity. Whether the room calls for a leaner configuration or a larger full-band presentation, the standard remains the same—strong vocals, real playing, curated sets, and an experienced group that understands the assignment.
The Epics play great songs for audiences who still believe live music can change the entire atmosphere of a room. Book the band. Bring the crowd. Keep the beer cold.
The Epics will handle the rest — while spreading good vibes one song at a time.
